RE: RV Stolen From Forest River - help please

I, like a lot of rv'ers, am watching this thread with interest. It is a shame that any manufacturer would not recognize that the 5er was stolen while in their possesion and fix the problem promptly and courteously for the consumer. It doesn't matter that this family is from out of country.....I would expect to be made whole in a situation like this if I lived next door!
To the OP. I feel bad for you and if I was closer and could get my wife's permission to do so I would offer the use of our 5er to finish off your trip of a lifetime!
Forest River should hang their collective heads on this one. They still have the chance to do what is right for the customer.....so to them I say step up to the plate and just do it! You will be rewarded form the insurance company and restore a bit of respect back into the rv'ing community. The rv world is watching to see how you choose to handle yourself in a tough situation. Customer service is THE difference between a good rv and a bad one!

RE: Parking ordinance violation

My wife tells me i'm beating a dead horse. It's one of those things where you get all stressed out over it. Spend a lot of money and time fighting it and in the end, they win.
I will be shopping for my pink flamingos this weekend. If I can get a bunch of refrigerator boxes, I'm going to make a cardboard motorhome and part it in it's spot as a symbol.
If you have a 72 hour rule why not bring it back after leaving overnight at the storage lot? Leave it by your home for the 72 hours and go back and forth like this. Do this enough times and the neighbor will either complain again or confront you and give you an avenue for possible communication.
I am glad that I live where I do and have my 36' 5er in my own yard...slides out and ready for me whenever I choose to go sit in it or hook up and go!

RE: Wireless Provider Conspiracy Theory?

Do they wipe everything out? I took everything I could out of our old phones.
It is best if you do it yourself and not count on someone else to remove your information. Your local cell phone store may have the ability to do it hooked up to a computer and might not charge anything if you explain that you are giving it away for a good cause.

RE: Wireless Provider Conspiracy Theory?

What do some of you do with your old phones?
I think the Salvation Army still collects the old phones, and there was some organization that collected old cell phones to ship to troops overseas.
I have donated most of mine to a local organization that gets involved with domestic abuse cases. They give them out for the ability to dial 911 in another emergency or family crisis.

RE: bought new 2500 GMC

I bought my truck in signature new in 2005 and found that I didn't need a sliding hitch with my 5th wheel. The bed length being 6 1/2' is plenty so I don't smash my back window and I have been at some interesting angles in the past two years too!
If you own it already.....I think it will fit fine. That's what they are made for!

RE: Cell Phones and Charges???

mytime-
I have gone to Sprint's customer service email system as the phone takes too long. I can email them with my issue and they will have it resolved by the time they respond.....which is usually the same or the next day. I have not had any billing issues for a while now but did for the first 18 months I was with them. Try emailing customer service....I think you will be much happier than sitting on the phone for what seems like an endless amount of time.
Let us know how you fare.

RE: What do I need to run 2 PC's on 1 aircard

I just bought a new USB broadband router from Best Buy as I wrecked my PCMCIA card. It works even better than the dLink that I had for the old card. I don't remember the make of it off hand and it is in the RV....but it is the only one they carry. It was around $250.00

I too was having issues updating but I just ran the program before this writing and it actually worked today!
As posted above.....there are some nasty new viruses to deal with. I had my laptop infected last week and it took me the better part of a week to get it figured out! I don't know where it came in either! It is frustrating to say the leat! All of my postings lately have been from my desktop pc just in case btw!

RE: 7 thousand dollar brake repair. Be careful when you buy.

FL. State Recommends
As-Is Or Warranty
All dealers are required by Federal law to post a "buyers guide" in the window of each vehicle offered for sale. The buyers guide notifies the buyer that there is a warranty or that the vehicle is being sold "AS-IS" with no warranty of any kind.
In the case of an "AS-IS" sale, once you drive the vehicle from the dealership, it belongs to you, despite any problems the vehicle may have. If the vehicle breaks down after only a few minutes of leaving the dealership, the repairs are YOUR responsibility.
There is no Lemon Law for used cars in Florida.
After you've checked out the car thoroughly and are seriously considering buying it, you should take it to a trusted mechanic or auto diagnostic service (again, check the Better Business Bureau) before you make a final decision.
The mechanical check is not an "iron-clad" guarantee, just one more way of protecting you and your loved ones. This may be the most important step in the used-car buying process. Don't skip it! This is also very important when buying from a private party. If the dealer or owner refuses to let you take the car to a mechanic, Do Not Buy The Vehicle! You may have to pay $50 or so for this service, but it provides the best protection available, although it does not guarantee the car against major defects.
http://www.flhsmv.gov/dmv/usedcar.html
Nothing in the window about anything, the MH had recently come in. I know that I can't prove anything, but if you could see the picture that I took of the rear rotor with the tone ring completely corroded away, that they put a new caliper on, you would be shocked. Anyway to post a picture on this forum?
You can post a picture if you use a photo hosting service such as Photobucket or such. Once it is there use the icon above the dialog box to start the process.....and make sure to use the correct size of 640w x 480h or visa versa. Or you can email it to someone who does it all the time like the moderator and let them do it for you.

RE: Slide out problem

Last night was packing up and cleaning up the 5er because we are suppose to leave tomorrow for the Labor Day weekend trip. Went to let out the bedroom slide and all it would do is pop like it does when you bring it in and the slip-clutch kicks in. I thought it might have something wedged in it or that it just needed a little push, but none of that worked. Don't have time to get it to the dealer before we are suppose to leave. Anyone got any ideas? At lunch I'm going to try the manual rout and see it that will just break it loose enough to get it working. Have any of you had this happen if so is there a quick fix?
Having the same issue on our large livingroom slide at present! It went out with the motor after starting it manually with the crank that came with ours. The mfg tells me that is a sign of a weak motor or something causing the slide to bind. Mine should still be under warranty too so I will probably haul it in and see what is up with it.
The manual operator for mine is on the opposite side from the slide. Good luck!

RE: Lubricating locks

From Kwikset Locks- Do not use WD-40 on your locks as a lubricant, WD-40 is a light lubricant and not recommended for use in locks. WD-40 stands for Water Displacement & 40 stands for the amount of times it took them to get the right formula. WD 40 and other petroleum products will dry and gum up the workd. Locksmiths don't want you to know that! So what to use? Lubricate your automobile door/trunk locks with a dry lubricant such slip-plate or other dry graphite lube at least once a year.
I may be the exception to your thought but I have been preaching at my customers for 17 years to NOT use WD40 in their locks. I have better things to do than to make calls to spray a good lube into a lock for them. I would rather sell them the good stuff to do it themselves.
For those of you who responded with a good silicone....you will be happy. For those of you who use graphite....you will be happy. Just don't mix the two or it will be a mess! I recommend either of the above or TriFlow teflon based lube. One of the products I tried with good results was Wal Mart's brand of silicone.....and it did quite well where used and it was only $.97/can!

RE: EVDO air card

Hi Sally-
FWIW.
I am a Sprint EVDO user and recently was told of their new policies about the 5GB cap so I called to check into it. Seems they have realized that they cannot change contracts with current users in mid stream without running the risk of losing their customer base. As I put it to them..."if you break your contract with me, I no longer have to honor my contract with you"! They are leaving us alone on the unlimited plans as long as we don't ever quit and try to restart again.
I was told by one of their phone support people that all plans were changing to the new program so I went higher up the food chain to make sure.....and was assured that they are leaving the current customers alone on this issue! So I remain with Sprint and am happy with their EVDO service.
I hope you're right.
How long ago did you have this conversation with them? I talked with them a little over 2 weeks ago - just before my current billing cycle started.
I absolutely love the service... and I was really thinking of adding two smartphones to my plan now that they have the $99 unlimited on those. But I've held back on all of it because I'm not going to sign phone contracts if they terminate me as an EVDO customer.
I guess the thing that concerns me is that they have changed their T&C to reflect something that flies in the face of what you were told.
So at the end of the day, it's very difficult to believe just whatever we are told over the phone by Sprint.
This conversation took place less than two weeks ago. Customer service actually transferred me into the department where you would go if you were cancelling your service.....and they assure me that I will still have the unlimited service as long as I don't cancel it. When I log into my account online it tells me that I have unlimited also.
I had a need to upgrade my aircard as I dropped mine (PCMCIA) into a dessert dish that was soaking in the sink and I could not find anyone willing to test it in their computer for fear of crashing a motherboard. So if you know of someone who likes to take risks... I have an EVDO broadband card that smells like snicker bars/ice cream that they can try!! I digress..... That was the start of my inquiry anyhow, and in the end I was assured that everything will stay the same as what I contracted for. My wife and I use a router with my aircard so I get concerned with usage....not to mention I don't have a great way of knowing how much I have used or not so I didn't want my plan to be changed on me either!
I hope this helps somewhat.

RE: EVDO air card

I do a business. Right now, I've spent the last hour on a vendor's site buying product. My usage now is at 52 megs for today - and it's only Noon:30 here.
Some of these lists of what you can do with 5 gig are really deceptive.
I just know what I'm using... and like I said earlier... I've downloaded two songs this month and spent a total of about 2 hours on YouTube. The rest of it is just workin' on the web.
There is some chatter out there that Sprint is maybe not going to slam the business users quite so fast. (and I was told that when I called in to the business customer service) ... so maybe Sprint will realize that businesses (at least some) can't function on 5 gigs.

RE: HELP! Trailer Tougue snapped off on highway today!

Is it breaking in new places, or places that were already replaced/repaired?
According to the last post by the OP (complete with pictures) it is both breaking in new places as well as the repaired areas.
I am following this post with great interest because I wanted to upgrade to an all aluminum trailer prior to reading this. Now I am not so sure that I shouldn't hang onto my heavy steel framed 26' enclosed trailer.

RE: Picture posting thread...anyone into it?

We just yesterday left Hart Ranch and the black hills of South Dakota. We are on a final fling with our kids before they both start college and leave the nest. We had a blast touring Needles highway and Custer State Park as well as some of the other tourist attractions. The following is just a brief snippet of our time there:
My girls awaiting our tour into Wind Cave-

My DS climbing as high as the needle:

Buffalo in Custer:

The family wanted a pic of me driving through this smallish tunnel:
http://i67.photobucket.com/albums/h318/lockdoc600/IMG_1370.jpg width=640
As nice as Hart Ranch was I did not get any pics of anything in the resort as we spent all the daylight hours outside the place! I had forgotten how much there is to do and see in the Black Hills.
If I remember right we have some snake lovers on here...does anyone want to see some of the snakes from Reptile Gardens?
